It does a body good.
Rand Paul introduced an amendment to disarm the FDA. Why they are armed in the first place I can't guess. Of course we can't be trusted to know what is best for us, so the amendment was defeated. I wish every news story on the actions of Congress had a link that would give a roll call on how each Senator voted on the issue.
After a few minutes searching I found one. Since only 15 Senators voted for the amendment, chances are yours aren't on there. One from my state is.
I don't think I will waste time trying to chastise the other for not voting for this common sense amendment. We will be seeing aerial acrobatics from swine before he ever gets my vote. He's a liberal, and I think he's on the way out anyway.

If I were running.
Repeal Obamacare. Remove restrictions on health insurance being sold across state lines. Tort Reform.
Deport illegals. Punish those who violate the law by hiring them.
End the failed war on some drugs. I was reading a magazine article about informants from one cartel helping DEA by informing on their enemies. As a result their own cartel now is very strong and knows how the DEA operates. Any fool can see we are losing this war.
Repeal the various gun control acts.
Cut social programs. Immediate means testing for Social Security. Raise the retirement age by 3 months per year till we get to 75. Roll back the Bush drug benefit. Yes, everyone paid. I am paying, and I won't see any benefits. I don't see why later generations are the only ones that need to get screwed.
Cut unemployment off after 6 weeks. Or abolish it altogether. Cut food stamps. I would make "social justice" the responsibility of the churches again.
Cut the size of govt and the number of govt employed by at least 40%. Freeze govt wages. Freeze govt workers.
Remove some of the alphabet soup agencies. BATFE, FEMA, DEA, would be gone, there are many others. Edit: Department of Education....
Reign in or remove Homeland Security. Repeal the patriot act. Privatize airport security.
Set the corporate income tax to 0%. Companies do not pay taxes, they merely collect them. Therefore corporate income tax is just a hidden tax on consumers. This will free up resources to hire more workers and stimulate industry.
I would actually have an energy policy. I would end all subsidies to green energy. I would stop the foot dragging on drilling permits and pipelines.
Investigate Solyndra, prosecute the Black Panthers,
End farm subsidies.
I would look at ways to cut regulations.
I would end that practice of Congress exempting themselves from laws and make them subject to programs like Obamcare and Social Security like the rest of us.
End the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe Germany, Japan, and Korea, as well.
Propose a budget. Make the hard choices to end the deficit.
Open season on lawyers.
Southern California would be left as a haven for liberal policies until we can fence it off from the rest of the country. At which point it would be sold to Mexico for $1.
Of course there is more that I have not thought of, and nobody would vote for me anyway. But the above represents what needs to be done in order to save us from collapse. We are so going to collapse.
Edit: Get rid of the Federal Reserve. Roast Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke and Paul Krugman on a spit.

Real life intrudes.

I try not to think about it.

Range Report
I (sort of) followed the manufacturers directions to prepare the mold, but I didn't have alox lube, so I used the lee liquid alox. I plugged in the furnace, and soon had liquid metal. I skimmed the dross off the top with a screwdriver. Need to acquire or improvise a lead dipper.
The first pair of bullets out of the two cavity mold had one perfect, and one not so good. After awhile, I figured out the bottom pour pot, and my mould got heated up properly, and I started getting mostly good bullets without running molten metal all over the place.
A stopped when I had about 50. I lubed them with the tumble lube. I bought lee tumble lube moulds, as I figured that sounded the easiest. No sizing really necessary, unlike other types. I expect I may need to size for my .45 acp, so I bought the sizing die for that.
The tumble lube is supposed to dry overnight. I didn't wait. I loaded five and shot them with a mild load. Then I loaded those five cases and about 30 others with a full power blue dot load.
I went outside and shot most of them. I wish I could tell you how accurate they are, but I am a terrible shot with my .44. I got about a 3" group from a standing position from 30 feet. I don't think that says anything about the loads, rather my poor shooting ability with a handgun.
Next, I suppose I'll have to buy about 50 lbs of lead.

Punitive taxation.
Higher energy costs hurt the economy.
If Obama has any intelligence whatsoever, he knows this. Obama is either stupid or deliberately trying to hurt the economy.
Stupid or evil, libs. That's your guy.

Reaching the wrong conclusion
- Overall grade: (50)
- Public access to information: D+
- Legislative accountability: F
- Political financing: F
- Ethics enforcement agencies: F
South Dakota, which has the second-highest corruption risk score, has nine failing grades out of 14 categories, and three Ds. The state, which has among the lowest population density in the country, does not have “comprehensive state ethics laws,” an ethics commission or satisfactory transparency laws, as Denise Ross writes for the State Integrity Investigation. The state does little to require public officials, other than judges, to disclose their income and assets. State law features a loophole that makes it possible for individuals to make unlimited political donations. The state has made major improvements in its integrity by making many state records available online in recent years.
Of course, the the above quoted article is rating the laws that are in place, but the link to the article was entitled "the most corrupt states". I would submit that we don't have those laws in place because we are in fact one of the least corrupt states, and therefore have not needed ethics coded into law.
Does anybody really believe that New Jersey is the least corrupt State?

Wrongful Birth
A couple from Portland is suing for $3 million because a prenatal test failed to tell them their daughter had Down's syndrome. They need the money because if they had known they would have killed her via abortion, but now they have to support her for the rest of her life.
1. The test has a 99.7% accuracy rate. Why should they get any money just because they are the 0.3%?
2. This sounds like a perfect opportunity for a post birth abortion. Unfortunately, the parents that are suing because they didn't get to kill her, now love their daughter dearly.
3. I wish both sides could lose. We have a company that sells a test that is responsible for the deaths of many children, versus a couple that wants money because they missed their window to kill their child.
We declined the test three times.

oops
I loaded 100 .44 magnum rounds for a hunting trip last fall. I didn't get a deer with the old .44, in fact, the only deer I got last year was a doe with the bow. I have shot all but about 15 of those rounds, plinking at various things.
I came across the other box of bullets that I bought at the same time. That is when I discovered the error. They were 200 grain bullets, not 240's like I thought. I used the data for 240's.
Generally, when you handload, you are supposed to start 10% below the maximum charge weight and work your way up. Not with Hodgdon 110, also known as Winchester 296. This powder is only supposed to be reduced 3%. The reason is, that this particular powder has issues, in that once the bullet starts moving, pressure drops, and that causes the burning to slow, which could cause the bullet to stop, thereby acting like an obstruction. That is one theory anyway, as they have not been unable to reproduce it in the lab, although there have been enough problems (detonations) to produce the warning. I figure by using the wrong data I reduced them 13%. And then fired most of them.
Of course, this is much better than using 200 grain data to load 240 grain bullets. That would have been readily apparent. Then again, the Super Redhawk is about the strongest revolver made, handling cartridges up to 50,000 CUP, so it might have been OK.
Now since I have not killed myself with the first 85 rounds, I am debating if I should just fire off the remaining ones, or try to pull the bullets.
Updated to add the relevant warning from Hodgdon:
For those loads listed where a starting load is not shown, start 10% below the suggested maximum load and then approach maximums carefully, watching for any sign of pressure (difficult extraction, cratered and flattened or blown primers, and unusual recoil). H110 and Winchester 296 loads should not be reduced more than 3%.
Reduce H110 and Winchester 296 loads 3% and work up from there. H110 and Winchester 296 if reduced too much will cause inconsistent ignition. In some cases it will lodge a bullet in the barrel, causing a hazardous situation (Barrel Obstruction). This may cause severe personal injury or death to users or bystanders. DO NOT REDUCE H110 LOADS BY MORE THAN 3%.

Quote of the day
I've got a 10-year-old at home. She's always saying, "That's not fair." When she says this, I say, "Honey, you're cute. That's not fair. Your family is pretty well off. That's not fair. You were born in America. That's not fair. Darling, you had better pray to God that things don't start getting fair for you." P-J O'RourkeI have to remember this when my girls get older.

That's what we've been saying all along.
It's possible that we didn't mean it in the same way. There is no magic event or moment in time that transforms a "fetus" into a person. I've said that we should err on the side of caution, and assume that life and personhood begin at conception.
It seems that a couple of professors are arguing that we should take it the other direction. One supposes that personhood is conferred with a phd.

Definition of Irony
The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever.
Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture, asks us to "please do not feed the animals" because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.
The right hand doesn't know what is coming out the other side of its mouth.

Merry Christmas
I wanted to send some sort of
holiday greeting to friends and family, but it is difficult in today's
world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met
with my lawyer yesterday, and on advice I wish to say the following :
Please accept, with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes
for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress ,
non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice
holiday practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious
persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the
religious / secular persuasions and / or traditions of others, or
their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all .
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and
medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the
calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society
have helped make our country great ( not to imply that the USA is
necessarily greater than any other country ) and without regard to the
race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee .
By accepting this greeting, please be advised that you are accepting
these terms : This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal.
It is freely transferable on the proviso that there is no alteration
to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to
actually implement any of the wishes for her / him or others and is
void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion
of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the
usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until
the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher .
Best Regards ( without prejudice )

What did I miss?
A couple of other people got a deer on the trip, and a lot of pinochle was played. We did have a wild turkey supper, which is the highlight of the trip when we can get it.

Happy Halloween
And I'm an idiot. Because the reason I know nobody will want them is because a year ago she had a batch. I gave all those puppies away after unsuccessfully trying to sell them. At least I didn't have to shoot them. And I didn't get her spayed because I didn't think she would live many more years. I was right, but if I had she'd probably still be here.
So I make Bob Barker look like a smart guy. I originally did not spay the dog thinking I could sell a batch of pups once in a while. I never sent in her papers anyway, and time passed. I went 7 years with no problems, and then two batches of pups in a year.
I will probably keep one of the pups to replace her. I will bury her out in the yard and plant a tree next to her in the spring.
She was the best dog I've ever had.
